Geographically, it is situated in the high plains surrounding the Mlouya River, between the Middle and High Atlas Mountain ranges, The city's elevation is 1,508 meters (4,948 ft), making it one of the highest large towns in Morocco. Due to its high elevation, Midelt enjoys a very pleasant temperature during the day, allowing visitors to explore the town and its attractions comfortably. It’s also a good base for some off-road exploring, most notably Jebel Ayachi, which can be climbed without any technical experience. The vast countryside offers a beautiful landscapes canyon of lakes and pictures of rural Berber life and Kasbah . The mountainous space of the city is located at the south of Midelt -west of the city. With tops reaching more 3200m, this abounding space combined with rich culture, offers up several possibilities for practicing sports related to the activity of mountain tourism. The Middle Atlas is enclaved by highlands, with altitudes higher than 1000 m, in a central position between Rif, the High Atlas. One of the most frequented sites in Midelt is located approximately an hour out of the town: the Kasbah Myriem. It is a Christian monastery that is home to five monks, while nuns occupy the accommodation across the way from the monastery. Here, local girls are educated in the fine art of making carpets, which are then sold to the public. Another noteworthy attraction, which is located near the town, is El Karma Couscous, where the women of the village invite visitors to participate in their workshops to learn how to make hand-rolled couscous, which has been a part of their tradition for centuries. Midelt is a French creation, second in the country to Casablanca to receive electricity- built to coordinate the large-scale mining of lead and gypsum in the area. Thank to its location, Midelt offers a great departure to the Middle Atlas Mountains and those who would like to climb the highest pick of Jebel el Ayachi at 3737 metres.
